I know this might seem a bit involved but as badgers are fast, un-tameable, and sort of difficult, I found this was a great way to butcher them en-masse without getting hunters involved. Once you re-pull the level, your butcher will get right to work dealing with the corpses. Your military will make quick work of the animals while they're trapped in the room. DFHack integrates with Dwarf Fortress and extends it with plugins, scripts, a console, a way to bind. It comes with some useful tools that can fix your fort and make it easier to manage. Periodically check the numbers of your livestock, and flag all animals over a certain quota for butchering. They should move right next to the cage but won't do anything until the cage is opened. DFHack is a cross-platform framework allowing for easier development of tools that access DF memory (and of course, making the game more enjoyable for players). The mode lets you spawn in any existing civilization’s settlements, so you can play as a dwarf adventurer from one of your retired forts. This is an old thread but I've discovered a nice way to work around the fact that you can't designate to butcher a caged untameable animal. For raising and slaughtering animals, you need to do the designations of the animals to butcher manually.
